Application form - ANZHABNET HAB Technical workshop (Karenia focus) 26th November 2026

Background
The Australian and New Zealand Marine Harmful Algal Bloom Network (ANZHABNET) is committed to building local capacity in the identification, detection, and quantification of marine Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). To support this goal, we are offering a one-day technical workshop focused on both traditional and modern techniques for Karenia identification. The workshop will cover morphology-based identification using light microscopy and molecular techniques and includes a brevetoxin 
enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) assay demonstration.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for individuals who:
- Are currently involved in or planning to initiate marine HAB research or monitoring programs.
- Have some practical experience in identifying marine microalgae.
- Are interested in applying molecular technologies in their work and have access to the necessary infrastructure.

Course Details

Date: Thursday 26th November 2026

Venue: In person at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), Hobart

Cost: Free. Limited to 30 participants. Participants will need to cover their own expenses including travel, meals and incidental costs.

Our aim is to train the next generation of scientists in the field. Priority will be given to applicants with direct responsibilities in the research or management of marine harmful algae, particularly those well-positioned to share their expertise and skills with others. Nonetheless, individuals with a strong interest in attending are encouraged to apply. 

As the course can accommodate a maximum of 30 participants, places may be allocated across organisations to ensure broad participation.
